I do weekly pick’ems on ESPN, college and pro. I thought I’d share some of my picks for this weekend here on the blog.
College
- Vanderbilt over Tennessee - UT is just in sad shape this season, can’t see them getting up for this game. Vandy has something to play for.
- #15 Michigan State over #8 Penn State - Just a gut feeling.
- #5 Oklahoma over #2 Texas - I’m sticking with the home team, nothing against Texas Tech.
- #7 Utah over #14 BYU - Another home team, good in-state rivalry.
NFL
- Titans over Jets - Jets cover, but the Titans win a close one.
- Giants over Cardinals - Eli leaving the cold of New York and beating up on the pass happy Cardinals.
- Colts over Chargers - Peyton going into San Diego and leaving with a W.
- Saints over Packers - High scoring Monday night game, I think the Saints pull it out.
And one more, Ole Miss over LSU. Final score 31-30.
TUAW: Launch of Sirius XM iPhone app ‘StarPlayr’ coming soon?
This looks promising. I use Pandora a good bit and WunderRadio, another streaming app couldn’t hurt.
Man tries to pay bill with spider drawing.
From twitter via @frohman, this is freaking hilarious. BTW, you can follow me on twitter, @bigjim.
Just to be fair with the blog time, this is Caden, my brother’s oldest. If there was only one reason for us to move back to Mississippi it’d be these boys. We miss them lots. (by jgstitan)

This is my nephew Ellis. Great picture. (by jgstitan)

ESPN: Ole Miss to break through and end LSU drought.
Ole Miss 28, LSU 24: The newly named Magnolia Bowl has a lot riding on it this year. Namely, the winner positions itself nicely for a Cotton Bowl bid. The Rebels (6-4, 3-3 SEC) would also need to beat Mississippi State to end the season, but an 8-4 team Ole Miss team on a five-game winning streak could just about write its ticket to Dallas. LSU almost wrote its ticket to the most embarrassing loss of the Les Miles era last week, but managed to rally from a 31-3 second-half deficit and beat Troy. Did that comeback re-energize the Tigers, or are they merely limping to the finish? Here’s betting the answer is somewhere in between, and Ole Miss snaps a six-game losing streak against LSU to win a thriller at Tiger Stadium.
I think we’ve got a damn good shot at winning if we don’t turn the ball over. Also, check out What to watch in the SEC, Week 13 which is mostly about Ole Miss / LSU.
South Park: Anybody Who Thinks They Are Actually a Vampire Is Freaking Retarded.
Very funny episode, need to catch up on the rest of the season. I just happened to catch this one last night in bed.
NYTimes.com: Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.
This is an Op-Ed by Mitt Romney, pretty good read.
Hadn’t posted a list of the Firefox add-ons I use in quite a while. I like sharing the list with others and comments with suggested additions would be great. This list is actually generated by an add-on, InfoLister.
*UDPATE*
Brian had a good question, I posted some comments about some of these in the comments to this post.
Calif. Supreme Court to take up gay marriage ban.
The California Supreme Court accepted three lawsuits seeking to nullify Proposition 8, a voter-approved constitutional amendment that overruled the court’s decision in May that legalized gay marriage.
All three cases claim the measure abridges the civil rights of a vulnerable minority group. They argue that voters alone did not have the authority to enact such a significant constitutional change.
California is so fucked up. If it had passed, would those same groups still be saying “that voters alone did not have the authority to enact such a significant constitutional change.” Didn’t it get on the ballot because the California Supreme Court had said gays could marry? I don’t know, just seems like a really messed up process.
